ABOUT

Shilpa Trivedi, LCSW

Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Oregon LCSW L8302 and Washington LICSW LW61115994

Shilpa Trivedi, LCSW (she/her) is a licensed clinical social worker committed to delivering culturally sensitive and socially just psychotherapy. Shilpa Trivedi offers evidence-based treatments aimed at reducing troubling symptoms and improving overall quality of life.

Shilpa Trivedi views psychotherapy as a space of radical acceptance and healing, welcoming clients to embrace their true self in the pursuit of positive change(s). She thoughtfully and skillfully approaches psychotherapy from a psychodynamic theoretical orientation, which is rooted in the understanding that unconscious processes significantly influence human behavior, emotions, and interpersonal relationships. This approach, drawing from the psychoanalytic tradition, explores how early life experiences and unconscious conflicts shape one's current thoughts and behaviors.

In addition, Shilpa Trivedi has a deep belief in the importance of the stories we tell ourselves and others about our past and how the way we tell these stories shapes our lives. While psychotherapy cannot change the experiences of the past, it can profoundly help shift the way one responds and engages, resulting in healthier mood regulation, relationships, and engagement in life.

Shilpa Trivedi has a Bachelor’s in English from Reed College and a Master’s in Clinical Social Work from Smith College School for Social Work, a program with a specific anti-racism focus and rigorous clinical training curriculum. She deliberately chose clinical social work rather than other disciplines due to the focus on social justice and attention paid to person-in-environment (PIE), the idea that the environment a person is in has a significant impact on the decisions they make and how they move through the world. However, Shilpa Trivedi has also spent time interning and working in training hospitals with a focus on psychology education and research. She brings to her work a dedication to seamlessly incorporating science-driven and well-researched interventions into her practice when indicated. Shilpa Trivedi is adept at delivering these interventions with cultural responsiveness.

In her interactions with clients, Shilpa Trivedi values authenticity, warmth, and humor. She works collaboratively with clients to bring unconscious elements into conscious awareness, fostering self-discovery and insight. Emphasis is placed on the therapeutic relationship as a mirror for understanding relational patterns and dynamics. Exploring the depths of unconscious thoughts and feelings allows clients to gain a deeper understanding of themselves, address unresolved conflicts, and make positive changes in their lives. Shilpa Trivedi seeks to provide a safer and reflective space for clients to explore and process their experiences within the context of their unique life history. Shilpa Trivedi recognizes that personal growth and healing spring from the connections people forge with each other. She is committed to standing by her clients during their moments of pain, guiding them toward recovery and improved well-being.

Shilpa Trivedi has a wealth of experience in many different settings including work with social justice organizations, reproductive justice organizations, and other political advocacy organizations; work with survivors of intimate partner violence and/or sexual violence; work with individuals with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities; work with sex workers; work with helping professionals such as other providers; and work with Veterans, service members, and first responders. In addition to her private practice, Shilpa Trivedi currently works for a large hospital system providing remote mental and behavioral health services in a specialized outpatient PTSD clinic.

In order to better serve her clients, Shilpa Trivedi actively engages in professional organizations and research, participating in groups on Diversity and Inclusion, LGBTQIA+ populations, and trauma-affected individuals.

Navigating the process of finding the right therapist can feel overwhelming. I acknowledge that I may not be the perfect fit for everyone, and that is to be expected. The connection between a therapist and their client is crucial, often outweighing factors like treatment methods or theoretical frameworks. I firmly believe in the collaborative nature of therapy and strive to make it an integral part of our work together.

If, during our meeting, we discover that another psychotherapist might be a better match for you, I am more than happy to assist you in finding a new psychotherapist with the dedication required by my ethical code.

I understand that your ultimate goal in seeking therapy is to see positive changes in your life. Together, we will work on setting achievable goals. My practice is intentionally small and part-time, and if we decide to work together, it is because I genuinely believe in the potential for significant improvement through our collaboration. If, at any point, you feel that your goals are not being met, I am here to help guide you towards the person or approach that aligns better with your needs.

This holds true from our initial phone call to multiple sessions into our work together. I am well-versed in various psychotherapy and treatment approaches, even those I may not provide personally. Networking and consulting with fellow psychotherapists from diverse backgrounds is a routine part of my practice, and I am always open to making referrals to other providers when appropriate.
